ABOUT

"When you know better, you do better."

- Maya Angelou -

A singer/songwriter, an artist, an educator, a youth counselor, a mentor; the many hats of Pariah85 exhibit just how multifaceted she is. Fueled by a passion to better understand the human condition, her lyrics often reflect relational dynamics, the emotional effects of falling in love, the desire to communicate effectively, and how human beings can better understand each other through connectivity. An impassioned learner and observer, Pariah85 is continuously inspired through the things she hears, sees, feels, and learns. In her own words she states “I just love the creative process. I love to create content that makes people think, that makes people feel, that makes people aware, and ultimately makes them appreciative.”

Pariah85’s musical influences can be heard throughout her unique sound, which often blends R&B, Soul, Hip-Hop, Rock, and ambient music. She is heavily influenced by female artists who have helped shape the sound, aesthetic, and business of today’s music industry. Of her influences she says “I truly look up to Janet Jackson, Sade, Aaliyah, and Beyoncé. Those women understand what it means to take risks and how it benefits not only themselves, but the industry at large. They’re progressive artists who set the example on how you leap forward and move the industry forward in the process.”

“In my city, local artists find success in Rap, Blues, Southern Soul, and Zydeco music. They’re staples at social events within black culture. I’m looking to create a space where local R&B artist have the same opportunities for artistic exposure and high visibility.”

                                                                                                                                  -Pariah85

One of Pariah85’s main objectives is to bring R&B music to prominence in her home town of Baton Rouge, LA. She also wants to help the at-risk youth in the community hone their artistic talents and see the value in their education. In reference to her desire to connect with the youth of her community and beyond she had this to say:

“Young people are so impressionable and so influenced by the public figures they connect to, and they tend to look at those people for inspiration. They look at their glamorous lifestyles and covet that. But they don’t understand the incredibly hard work it took most of those people to get there. I just want them to see the value in their education and know that’s the way to elevation. Even with natural talent, your skills still need to be honed. You don’t become a great without discipline and a work ethic.”

As for her own journey to greatness, Pariah85 says it’s all about vision. “A dream without the drive, a goal, the passion, and a plan is just a wish. I have them all and I’m not wishing for a damn thing.”
